YOUR CREDIT REPORT
All Americans can now receive free copies of their credit reports. The free access is the result of a long-time lobbying to reform the credit reporting system so that consumers may better protect themselves against identity theft and give them better methods of assuring an accurate credit history. Until 2005, a consumer could only get a free credit report under specific circumstances; otherwise, you had to pay.

Now, however, you will be able to visit a centralized site to receive one free credit report a year from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus (Experian; Equifax; and TransUnion):

On the web: www.annualcreditreport.com

Phone: 1-877-322-8228

Mail:
Annual Credit Report Request Service
P.O. Box 105281
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

Consumers who have questions about items on their credit report, or who feel that there is inaccurate information contained therein, have a right to dispute errors. For more information on disputing errors on your credit report, and a sample of a dispute letter, you may visit the Federal Trade Commission facts for consumers page
